In a powerful demonstration of youth-led climate action, Waterford’s Youth Advisory Climate Council (YACC) hosted an inspiring event “Hear Us: A Panel Discussion Between Waterford’s Youth Advisory Climate Council and Local Decision Makers” in St. Patrick’s Gateway Centre on Wednesday 26th February 11am-1pm demonstrating how far the youth voice has come in shaping local climate discourse.
The innovative discussion brought together passionate climate activists, young people, members of the public and key decision makers to engage on sustainability, climate justice and resilience and the future of Waterford. The event was an important platform for voices to be heard ensuring that everybody's concerns, ideas, and solutions were not only acknowledged but actively integrated into local policies and initiatives. A highlight of the event was the presentation of resources developed aimed at empowering young people, as well as their teachers, youth leaders and decision makers, in being active citizens. These are full of actionable insights and forward-thinking approaches that can be implemented at a local and regional level. All of these can be found in the resource section of our website.
“The urgency of the climate crisis demands collective action,” said a spokesperson. “Young people are stepping up with innovative solutions and a deep commitment to creating a more sustainable future. This event is a chance to bridge the gap between generations, fostering collaboration and real change.”
Attendees had the opportunity to engage meaningfully with decision makers and ask the questions that were important to them. This is a must-attend event for policymakers, environmental advocates, educators, and anyone invested in the future of Waterford and beyond.
