Plastic Bales prepared for processimg

The Irish plastic recycling rates hover in the low 30% range. That means that there is a whole lot of plastic stuff that is not being recycled. It’s everywhere. When plastic does not get recycled it ends up either being burned or put in landfill. Neither is a good option. We don’t have the facilities to recycle and the alternatives are bad, so it is pretty clear that the only real option we have to use less of it. Buy less things that are made from plastic, avoid excessive packaging, use reusable water bottles and coffee cups, don’t use a straw if you don’t need one, switch to shampoo bars and bar soap, bamboo toothbrushes…the list goes on. There are a lot of things we can do and should do.
